Emerson's Nursery Reveal

I am finally getting around to Emerson’s nursery reveal, six months later! We have added some pieces to the nursery along the way so I’d argue that no nursery is really complete until you start using it fully. There were items we had that proved to be impractical and we quickly changed them out once Emerson came along. So now, six months later I can say her room is finally complete!

When we found out we were having a girl I immediately knew I wanted her room to be soft, neutral, and elegant. I am not one for color and Nate I and I prefer a simple minimalist décor. Emerson’s room isn’t particularly large in terms of square footage so that also limited us on how much furniture we could use in the nursery. Because of that the first thing to go was the traditional dresser with changing table. In the first few months we’d use her crib to change her and we had a changing table on top of her pack’n’play which we still use today. Since we live in a two-bedroom we also needed a pull out couch that could accommodate out of town guests when visiting so we decided to go with a couch instead of a traditional rocker.

I think one of my favorite pieces in her room is the Easton Sleeper Sofa from Room & Board. The soft bone color fits our neutral décor perfectly. It doesn’t look like your typical bulky sleeper sofa and whenever we move or redesign her room it is a piece that I can use anywhere in the house. I probably love the sofa so much because of the pictures that hang above it. The artwork for Emerson’s room was one of the pieces I selected first and really became the inspiration for my design. The Pressed Botanical Art from Restoration Hardware is both elegant and ethereal. It is feminine without being overly girly.

For her crib we knew we wanted something gender neutral so white was an obvious choice. Paired with the Washed Organic Linen sheets in ivory the set can be converted to a boys nursery for baby number two.

For storage we went with a simple shelf and these sturdy floor bins so we could easily clean her room by tossing all her toys and books in and still look organized.

With a few more personal and sentimental touches Emerson’s room has become a place we enjoy as a family and our favorite room in the house!
