We are a little late celebrating the date but our little Emerson turned 8 months last week. I was looking over pictures and she's changed so drastically in just a month. She looks less and less like my little baby and more like a little girl. Her personality is blossoming and she brings so much joy to our lives every day.
Emerson is on the peak of walking. She is starting to stand on her own and her new favorite activity is to lean on anything that looks sturdy and pull herself up to a standing position. She gets gets so proud of herself when she gets into the standing position, it is very cute to watch! This girl is very determined to go places.
In addition to Emerson’s milestones this past month we’ve had a few changes of our own. We officially moved to California! We are currently staying with my parents while we wait for our furniture to arrive. We are so thankful for family and all their support. This truly has been the most stressful period in our lives. It is difficult to uproot your home and routine with a baby. Note to all my girlfriends who don’t have kids yet in NYC, be sure to make the mass exodus before you have that baby! I don’t wish this on anyone. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are hoping to be established in our new home in San Anselmo by next week.
Here are Emerson's eight month stats:
Weight/Height:
At her last checkup with her pediatrician before we moved Emerson clocked in at 18.3 pounds and 28 inches. Since that checkup just two weeks ago I imagine she’s gained a few pounds and is now close to 20!
Health:
Emerson recovered from her surgery and her scar is healing nicely. Outside of that procedure she has been a healthy and strong girl.
Nursing/Eating:
I officially stopped breastfeeding and Emerson takes a bottle in the morning and a bottle in the evening. She eats three full meals a day and enjoys two snack sessions with a sippy cup. Her favorites include yams, yogurt, chicken, cheese, broccoli, and pasta (my Italian girl!). She enjoys finger foods to the fullest and prefers eating on her own versus being spoon fed. This girl is definitely a good eater.
Sleep:
We’ve stuck to Emerson’s schedule and she continues to sleep through the night. She sleeps on average 10 hours a night and while that 5:30am wakeup call is brutal we really cannot complain. Emerson takes two naps a day and is typically in bed by 7pm.
Dislikes:
Being hangry, missing a nap or being awake too long, cleaning her nose, not being able to stand. She’s also developed a bit of a mommy complex and when mom leaves the room she throws a little bit of a fit.
Likes:
Taylor and her Granna and Papa’s new puppy Abby, her push car, the swings at the park, cheerios, and animal sounds.
Clothes:
She wears 9-12-month size and she’s upgraded to size 4 diapers.
Crying:
Emerson still cries occasionally when being put down for naps or when she gets extremely overtired. She will occasionally cry or whine when she wants a change of scenery but for the most part she is not a crying type of baby!
Milestones:
Emerson began standing on her own without having to lean on anything for support. She is saying Mama, Dada, Hi, and waves Bye Bye.
Postpartum:
My workouts are pretty non-existent and now that I am no longer breastfeeding and burning those extra calories I need to get in a routine more than ever. I need balance back in my life! Once we move into our new place I hope to establish a routine and get back in the groove.
